Poco M6 Pro unboxing

It comes in black-yellow box. Inside the box, you get SIM card tool, documentation, good quality frosted transparent TPU case, 22.5W charging brick with 1m type-A to type-C charging cable, but the phone supports only 18W charging. That’s pretty it.

Design and build

There is a familiar POCO design with black island design with two camera modules, one flashlight module and big POCO branding which looks stunning, by the way. The phone comes in Forest Green and Power Black colours. It’s carved with glass back that means stunning look but it attracts fingerprint impressions.

The front screen comes with Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protection. The phone has plastic body. The phone seems slightly big in small hands but it does not feel to be that much heavier in hands. It’s just an OKAY-weight phone. So, thumb’s up for that. It has flat design as well (boxy design). That’s it in design and build section.

Ports and buttons

On the bottom, there is a microphone, USB type-C slot, speaker grill. On the left hand side, you can see SIM card tray. On the top, you have a 3.5mm jack and an dedicated infrared sensor (IR blaster in Xiaomi language). On the right hand side, it has a power on-off button which also works as a fingerprint sensor, and a volume up and down button. The screen also has pre-applied scratch guard.

Weight

The POCO M6 Pro 5G has a balanced weight of about 198.2gm which is good and obvious because of the massive 5,000 mAh battery.

Display

If I talk about the display, then POCO M6 Pro 5G has a 6.79 inch full HD plus IPS LCD display. Display supports up to 90Hz refresh rate. It’s a good refresh rate phone under Rs. 10K budget. It also supports up to 240Hz TSR (Touch Sampling Rate), and up to 550nits of peak brightness. The video viewing angle is also very good.

You should not have any problem in low sun light, but there may be difficulty in visibility under direct or harsh sunlight because of just 550nits brightness. Display bezel and chin appear to be average in size, neither thick nor thin. Like other smartphones, it also seems very much modern since it has a centered punch hole selfie camera.

Specification

POCO M6 Pro 5G comes with a 2.2GHz Snapdragon 4 Gen 2 processor which is based on 4 nanometer process, which is a very-very capable processor. If I talk about its scores, it gives us up to 4,41,968 antutu scores. It’s quite decent because of lesser price. It has probably the highest antutu scores under ₹10,000 price segment.

It has hybrid SIM card slot. So, you can use either 2 SIM cards or 1 SIM card and 1 SD card at once. I hoped for dedicated SIM card slot though. Let me know what you like: hybrid or dedicated? Comment down below. The storage of this phone can expand up to 1TB using an SD card.

Performance

The POCO M6 Pro 5G also seems superb in performance sector. If I talk about the gaming department of this phone, you can play up to 30FPS on high settings, which is again excellent considering this 10K price segment. It’s comes in 4GB LPDDR4X RAM with 64GB/128GB UFS 2.2 storage, or 6GB RAM with 128GB storage, or 8GB RAM with 256GB storage. and 12GB with 512GB storage.

OS and UI

POCO M6 Pro 5G comes with MIUI 14 out of the box. The operating system is based on Android 13, and it is probably the first time, under ₹10K budget segment, POCO has given 2 years of major android version updates, and 3 years of security updates. Hope, they give timely updates. I also found that there are so many third party applications as well, but you can uninstall most of them.

It also has everlasting Glance feature, which you can use for displaying various lock-screen wallpapers, but you can also uncheck it when not liked. The phone dialer is MIUI but not the Google one, which is again good because you can record the calls silently without informing the caller that you have started recording the conversation between you and the caller.

Multimedia

POCO M6 Pro 5G has an IPS LCD display with resolution of Full HD plus and the qualities and colors it produces are very clear and sharp. However, you will miss Always On Display (AOD) feature because of the IPS display. It has 3.5mm headphone jack, mono speakers which are loud and have good sound quality. So, overall, it’s a very good multimedia device.

It has a side mounted fingerprint sensor, face unlock and all other sensors like proximity sensor, gyroscope sensor, GPS sensor, IR blaster, magnetic compass sensor etc.

Connectivity

The POCO M6 Pro 5G is a 5G phone and supports 7 5G bands across India, with VoLTE and VoNR feature. It is the cheapest 5G phone under ₹10K. It also supports both 2.4GHz and 5GHz Wi-Fi bands allowing you to connect to various available WiFi networks. It also includes features like WiFi Direct, WiFi Display and wireless screen-casting. The POCO M6 Pro 5G uses Bluetooth version 5.3. It supports Bluetooth HD Audio Protocol, Bluetooth Audio Sharing and Bluetooth HID. The phone has NFC capabilities which enable functions like read/write card and analog card. Additionally, it supports citizen network electronic ID (eID) and car key features.

Additional features

The POCO M6 Pro 5G does come with FM radio, no notification light, SAR value is within the limit (1.6 W/kg), IP 53 splash and dust proof and GPS, GLONASS, GALILEO and BDS for positioning. It also supports Widevine L1, so, you can stream video in FHD quality.

Camera

Since POCO M6 Pro 5G is budget phone, you can not expect much about camera. But it has a 50MP primary back sensor, a 2MP depth sensor, and an 8MP front facing selfie camera for taking decent photos. Photos from primary back sensor come out to be just good under sufficient lighting condition, which is usable, by the way. Do check this G. Drive links for original photos taken using this phone before jumping into buying this device.

You can do videography at 1080p resolution with up to 30 Frames Per Second (FPS). Camera app features include 7 film filters. So, you can use these different filters to take different types of moody photos. The camera app is clean and minimalist. It also has standard features like portrait mode, time lapse, night mode etc. Night mode gives just average images.

What I think about POCO M6 Pro 5G

By having all these specifications, I am very-very happy with POCO M6 Pro 5G because who gives glass back under ₹10,000 in 2023 even though the chips prices are very high. I’d like to request you to buy 6GB/128GB variant because if you are planning to buy a 5G budget phone at 10K rupees. The 4GB/128GB variant and 8GB/128GB are not price worthy.

If you’re planning to use this mobile phone as your gaming device, then please don’t buy it. It is also not for camera centric people because of inferior camera quality. This device targets just basic users who are wanting to use their phone just for calling or watching videos or playing casual games or surfing internet on 5G network. So, if you are in any of that category people, then it is still a top choice in 2024 for you with ₹10,000 budget in your pocket. That’s all about the POCO M6 Pro 5G.
