Nokia, Google unveil next-gen Android-based smartphones at MWC 2017

Microsoft and Nokia will debut a new smartphone at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona on Friday, May 3, with the new handsets launching alongside the company’s first Android-powered smartphone.

The Nokia X2 smartphone will be available in three different variants: the Nokia X3, Nokia X4 and Nokia X5, which are priced at €99 ($120), $149 ($179) and €199 ($219), respectively.

The X4 will include a 5-inch 1080p display, a Snapdragon 810 chipset and a 3,300mAh battery.

The new Nokia X series will also include a fingerprint scanner, a fingerprint sensor camera, a rear-facing speaker, a 5MP rear camera, and an 8MP front camera.

The handset will be released in April 2021 and will launch at $399 (€499), €599 ($799), and €699 ($899) respectively.

The Nokia 3G smartphone will launch in May 2021, priced at $299 (€299) and $399 ($399), respectively, and will feature a 5.5-inch QHD display, 2GB of RAM, 64GB of storage and a 2,000mAh battery, along with a dual-SIM version.

The phone will launch alongside the Nokia 2, which will launch on May 12, 2021, and launch at £219 ($274) and £299 ($399).

The Nokia 5 will launch a month later on June 12, 2020 and launch for €399 ($499).

The Nokia 5 has been rumoured to be launched with a 3G version of the Nokia 7 smartphone, but the latest leak suggests that Nokia will stick to the 2G model, with both the 2 and 3G variants launching in 2020.

The new Nokia flagship smartphone will not only compete with the Nokia 6 and Nokia 7, but also with the likes of Samsung and HTC, and is expected to arrive alongside the Lumia 930, which is expected in 2021.

According to the leaked information, the Nokia 5 is expected with a 4.5″ IPS LCD display, with a QHD resolution, 5.1-inch curved display, Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 chipset, 5MP front-facing camera, 16GB of internal storage, a 1,600mAh battery and 64GB expandable storage.

The device will have a rear camera with a LED flash, a microSD card slot, a dual speaker, an 8 megapixel rear camera and a 5 megapixel front camera, with fingerprint scanners integrated into the device.
